Bags in the making - Fabric delivery

Last week I blogged about the two bags I have planned to make.

I ordered fabric on Oct 22nd and last night when the girls and I came home from school I had three slips in the mail telling me to come to the grocery store to fetch my packages that were too big to be delivered.
Two contained the fabric and one package was from the UK where I had ordered the interfacings.

Weekender Travel Bag

The fabric is just gorgeous! It has such a nice feel to them and the colours are rich and yummy.

Sophia Carry-all

The gold fabric I picked for the lining of the Sophia bag is not an obvious choice but I think it matches very well.

I think there will be time tonight after we get home from the cinema to chuck the fabric in the wash. Not that I plan to wash the bags a lot but the materials are chosen so that it is washable should the need arise.

Happy Spring!

(image borrowed from here)

I subscribe to Pink Chalk's Fabric Club of Monthly Solids. Last month it was pinks and reds and from the look of the photo above I can expect a yummy stack of greens to land in my mailbox sometime next week.

Or you know - the slip that says to pick it up at the grocery store ...

I can't wait!

Arranged

I saw a blog post a few weeks ago with awesome fabric organisation.

She had used backing boards for comic books to wind up fabric on for storage. It looked neat and tidy and just what I needed.

Unfortunately all the backing boards I could find were sold by people who (like me) wouldn't brave the entity that is the Customs Office and sell internationally.

So I had to look up a local stockist. And I managed to find one too. Rickard picked up the boards for me on Monday and I started re-arranging the cupboards immediately.

This is how far I've come and I have to say that while it looks good (great, even) it does take up a lot more space than it would if I had folded it neatly and put it in piles.
It's a lot more accessible this way though and it's easier to see what I have and what goes with what. Estimating the amount of yardage I have is also easier.

I have some ways to go before I can say I'm finished, and I also have lots of fabric that I will pack up and store in the attic.

I will modify this idea for that fabric so I can remember what I put in storage.

Christmas tree mat

Back at work after a gloriously long holiday vacation. It feels really weird.

I went to my local quilt shop on Monday with a frined who is starting her first quilt. I was surprised to see the winter sale there. I don't know why, I just never gave it much thought.
There were a few FQs there that caught my eye. Especially one of a Toy shop that you're supposed to turn into an Advent Calendar.
I was very good on Monday though and didn't buy a thing.

But then I saw this tree skirt on my Google REader-list and thought I should get around to make that tree mat I've been wanting to make for a while.

I figured if I start in January I'll have no excuse not to finish it before next Christmas.

So today at lunch I drove across town to get some fabric for the mat.

I ended up getting a book as well on basic patchwork techniques. It's by a Swedish author so I can't really link it.

There was a really nifty tip on how to easily make continuous bindingstrips that I'm eager to try out.

I think I'll give myself some time to get over being fed up with Christmas before I start it. I have to draft a pattern anyway so I think there'll be time.

Little Blessings

20080829_mob003

Fabric hanging to dry in anticipation of being cut and made into a baby quilt for our new little cousin.

It's all in greens, yellows and lilac/purple so it can fit both a boy and a girl without being glaringly unisex.

Fabric!

20080719_img003

The glorious fabric from Fat Quarter Club arrived this week. You can see in the picture below I've already started.

I'm not sure where to begin but I was gonna try it out tonight. Unfortunatelly I got a bout of migraine when we were out for a walk this afternoon and have spent most of the evening this far trying hard to keep my dinner down.

I'll give it a go tomorrow instead. I don't want to muck it up.

Eager

I'm eagerly awaiting my order from FatQuarterClub. They shipped it on July 1st and the website said the delivery time was 1-3 weeks. We're halfway there.

I didn't realise until after I paid that I had chosen two charm packs with winter themed fabrics.

When I was at the quilting store last week for one of their classes I bought a fat quarter bundle (6 FQs) with summery fabrics so I'm thinking I could use that for Sofia's quilt instead.
I just need some more coordinating prints for the sashing and borders and backing.

Next week I'm on vacation and I'm thinking we'll head into the thrift store and see if they have some sheets I could use.

If not I'll just have to take the bundle out and see if I get some inspiration. Sofia has a yellow fitted sheet I may be able to use for coordinating squares. I'll have to get it out and see how well it matches the bundle fabrics.

First post

Today I made my first purchase of quilt packs.

I got one charm pack from Me and My Sister's Smores design and one from Deb Strain's It's Snowing.

I didn't realise at the time they were both rather wintery fabric lines but it will be quite alright.

I've mapped out a first draft of a quilt for Sofia using the Smores charm pack. It will probably be a bit similar to the one I made for Isabel but that one was a bit more elaborate than this one.

If it's not too hard to make I think I'll start planning a new one for Isabel.

[FO] Petal Cupcake Pin cushion

I used this tutorial to make it and Michael Miller's cupcakes fabric that I bought from Bellepepper on Etsy.

I used lilac felt for the back and a blueish button I had in my button collection.

I kind of like how it turned out but if I make another I'll stuff it a lot more.

[wip] Dress for BabySister

AMH-dress for Sofia

Pattern from "Allt Om Handarbete" and the fabric is bought on Etsy. It's Chocolate Lollipop by Anna Maria Horner in a green colourway.
I bought a yard of it in pink as well and I cut out a dress for BigSister too. That's another wip though.

This one is finished almost. It needs heming and a button in the neck. The button I have and I'll serge the edge of the dress at my aunt's on Saturday and then hem it at home on Sunday.
Maybe BigSister's dress can be serged as well on Saturday - we'll see. Not counting on it though.
